What information do I collect?

When you contact me, I may collect personal information such as your name, contact details, and any information you choose to share about your reasons for seeking counselling.

If we decide to work together, I will also keep records relating to our counselling work, including assessment information and brief session notes.

Why do I collect your information?

I use your information to:

  • Respond to enquiries

  • Arrange and provide counselling sessions

  • Maintain appropriate counselling records

  • Meet professional, ethical, legal and insurance requirements

Everything discussed in counselling is treated confidentially.

There are a small number of circumstances where I may need to share information without your consent. These include situations where:

  • There is a serious risk of harm to you or another person

  • I am required to do so by law

  • Information relates to serious criminal activity or terrorism

Where possible, I will discuss any disclosure with you first.

Professional Supervision

As part of safe and ethical practice, I attend regular professional supervision in accordance with the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Client work may be discussed anonymously with a qualified supervisor who is bound by the same professional standards of confidentiality.

How long is information kept?

  • Enquiries that do not lead to counselling are normally deleted within 6 months.

  • Counselling records are retained for 5 years after our work together ends and are then securely destroyed.
